Title : Analysis of visualization expressions of students in their lab reports The outcome of virtual science fairs

Project Lead : Gabriela Jonas-Ahrend From : Technische Universitaet Dortmund (None)

Dates : from -- to 2014-03-03 13:52:05

Description :

Motivation and objectives :
I want to study (a) how to analyze visualization expressions which students use in virtual science fair projects - working with Prof. Judy Dori, (b) to learn how to model the e-mentoring and the virtual science fairs' processes using the OPM methodology - working with Prof. Dov Dori, and (c) to explore additional ways to foster students' scientific literacy and motivation - working with both Professors

Teams :
I am working at the physics education department. The head of the department is seriously ill and there is now a physics professor working as a substitute. We have about 80-100 physics teacher students per year and teach them in physics education and school related laboratory work, support their bachelor and master thesis and school internships.

Dates :
starting date : 11 November, 2012
ending date : 15 November, 2012

Recordings & Results :
During the visit Dr. Jonas-Ahrend presented the Virtual Science Fair project as well as examples of students' visual outcomes. Further to the presentation the visitor, the hosts and the research team began conducting in-depth analysis of the visual students' outcomes and the science literacy that is reflected through those outcomes. Additionally we constructed an OPM model that represents the science fair project's system. The visit ended with a promise to continue the joint research activities. My stay was a unique and great experience. I feel honored to be hosted by VISIONAIR. I feel truly thankful for that great cooperation and the special collaboration with great people of the team. I am also very thankful for the warm welcome and nice talks.
