Description :

Motivation and objectives :
In a long run we are interested in interactive tools that can be developed to support the design of Energy efficient neighbourhoods involving range of stakeholders including architects and energy experts. This is demanding task that might require the integration of an energy simulation module with an interactive virtual environment where stakeholders could explore what-if scenarios and make sound judgement on design issues that can lead to energy efficient neighbourhoods. The main objective of this proposal is to define a very first prototype for an interactive visual environment that will allow architects to explore in novel way energy efficient neighbourhood designs. The prototype and demonstration will be collaborative target for VTT and Salford research teams.

Teams :
The key group consist of a team in VTT in expertise areas of energy design and simulation (building and neighbourhood level), Use of visualisation technologies supporting design process, BIM based design process, openBIM based technologies, conceptual data modelling and interoperability, and performance based (KPI based) sustainable design process and design management. Working group from VTT: Tarja Mkelinen, Mari Sepponen, Juha Hyvrinen Advisory experts from VTT: Krzysztof Klobut, Jari Shemeikka, Janne Porkka

Recordings & Results :
The main objective of this project is to define a very first prototype for an interactive visual environment that will allow architects to explore in novel way energy efficient neighbourhood designs.

Conclusions :
The design of an application dashboard was completed. It allows the visualisation of several levels of energy and sensor data within a neigbourhood context in a VR environment, also using a tablet device for UI.
