Description : Motivation and objectives :
Expert sport shooters perform worse when subject to stressing environment, which is typically the case during competition. Using a virtual environment, an ecologically valid competition scenario can be reproduced in a controlled environment. Electrophysiological signals (in this case, EEG) can be recorded and linked to shooting accuracy while controlling for the amount/strength of distracting stimuli. The first objective of the project is to better understand, on a group level, how cortical processes are impaired by the distracting environment causing a shift in the attention locus and leading to degraded performance. The second objective is to attempt to recognise successful shots before the shot is actually fired by looking at the characteristics of the brain signals at a single trial (shot) level.
Teams :
The focus of our research is on the direct use of human brain signals to control devices and interact with our environment. We are involved in a large set of complementary projects, which balancethe development of prototypes where robust real-time operation is critical and the exploration of new principles.

Recordings & Results :
We recorded high-density EEG while subjects were performing a series of shots in a 2x2 factor design where the first factor was the presence or not of virtual opponents (avatars) and the second factor was the totalisation or not of the score.
Conclusions :
we recorded high-density EEG while subjects were performing a series of shots in a 2x2 factor design where the first factor was the presence or not of virtual opponents (avatars) and the second factor was the totalisation or not of the score.
